Reading Skills – Information and tips!
When reading, there are a number of skills that the children need to understand and be able to call upon.
These used to be called AF (assessment foci) and mean the following:
AF1 – Reading fluently
AF2 – Retrieval questions
– Ask the children a question where the answer is located in the text.
– Children need to identify key information in the questions and then locate answers that are literally in the text.
AF3 – Inference and deduction
– Children have to ‘read between the lines’ and work something out based on events or information that is not literally written in the text.
– Children need to identify key information in the questions and then locate information that matches the subject.
AF4 – Text structure and organisation
Rest to follow as they are covered in guided reading lessons.
