5L: A New Week
Friday 22nd March |
There may only be one week left until the Easter holiday but 5L have not slowed down one bit!
In literacy this week we designed a village in which all the children could exist as their own characters. Everyone had a name and a role within the village and had to design their place of work and homes on the map. The children created some really fantastic characters, such as Mark Schmellow (who owns the sweet shop) and a vet named Yvette! However, it seems our village was not to last…
We soon received a letter from a Mrs Vera Meen, which informed us that parts of our village were to be demolished to make way for a new motorway. As a result, the children are preparing to write some persuasive letters to try and convince Mrs Meen to build her road elsewhere.
In maths, we have been looking at fractions, decimals and percentages as well as how to convert between them. The children did a fantastic job with this and picked it up really quickly, even showing that they were able to convert fractions whose denominator was not a power of 10!
Finally, in music we have been learning how to rap the theme song from ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’. This is quite probably the most difficult song we have learnt this year and the children have done really well with it. Have a look at the video below and see what you think.
There is no learning log homework this week as I want to have a really got look at the children’s 500 word stories. There will be a learning log next week but until then, I would like all the children to really focus on their spellings by logging in to Spelling Shed.
