Music in 5L

Friday 26th January | 8 comments

Over the last few weeks in 5L, we have been trying out a new scheme of work in music. It involves learning a new song in depth each half-term (being able to perform it with both our voices and instruments). Our song for the current half-term is Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’, which the children have very much enjoyed performing.

In our music lessons this week and last week, we spent time learning each section of the song (verses, choruses and bridges) to the point where we have been able to perform it. I was blown away by how well the children performed and I’m sure you will be too!

We also had a go at using the glockenspiels to play along with the music and though we are keeping it simple to start with, the class did quite well at staying in time with the beat. We will hopefully build on these skills in the lessons to come.

Wow! Fantastic singing 5L. It looks like you enjoyed singing it too. Can’t believe you get to learn to sing songs like this! It is very different to the dreary songs and hymns we used to sing when I was at school!

I absolutely love Livin on a prayer because of the rhythm and beat of the song. I’m loving the new app in music sessions .

I think our voice as a class is good !

  3. Rosie (Amelia) Rose says:

Loved the singing ! It was very powerful how your volume increased as the song continued !

  4. Sam (Nina's Dad) says:

That was an epic performance, I am quite jealous as I don’t get to do this sort of thing at work!

  5. Angela Pritchard says:

  6. Zoe Briggs says:

Well done 5L one of my favourite songs ever! I wish my music lessons were as fun as this when I was at school.

  7. Claire (Evie & Max's mum) says:

Well done everyone, I really enjoyed listening to you sing Livin’ on a Prayer. What a great group of singers you are. I also loved how your heads started nodding more and more towards the end!

I’ve just checked and that song was released in 1986, which means that I was your age then!!

Good things come to those who wait…

The long introduction to this song made me smile: I am sure John Bon Jovi doesn’t have to respond to a door knock just before he starts singing! Mrs Hoyle is crazy about Bon Jovi: she will love this.

I look forward to seeing and hearing a performance including some glockenspiels. I shall be looking to check that the beaters are being held correctly, especially Ben (it’s not a mallet)!

Well done Miss Levett and 5L: you have brought a smile to my face on this Saturday morning!
