Another great week …

It has been another busy week in 5J and all of the children have worked really hard with their learning. I have thoroughly enjoyed continuing to get to know each and everyone of you!
This week we have worked very had studying some Greek myths and epics. The children have been bushy analysing the characters and their different traits. The main focus of the week was Heracles and his twelve labours. After looking at each labour in detail, it was the children’s turn to set a gruelling task! They did not disappoint. From mythical, sinister creatures to retrieving precious objects, Heracles may end up failing his thirteenth labour. Some excellent imagination used, well done.
In Maths we have continued to look at place value. The children have been using their knowledge to help them read and write up to 7 digit numbers. The children showed great skills doing this. We then moved onto ordering numbers, making sure we were looking at each digit to help us. Our final task of the week was looking at comparing numbers depending on their value using the greater than and less than symbols. The children used the resources given well to aid their learning during this task. Here is a question you could have a go at.
Today we started learning our first song of the year Bon Jovi’s Livin’ On A Prayer. The children were able to confidently find the beat and move their body in time. We also looked at playing glockenspiels along to the music using the notes ‘g’ and ‘a’. There was some fantastic playing and I was very impressed how everyone kept in time with the music. We will continue with this next week and may even be ready to give a preview!
A great week everyone. Well done. Have a lovely weekend and I will see you on Monday!
