5L: The Adventure Continues
Friday 26th April |
This week has been a little bit chaotic as a result of the bank holiday and various different activities that we have been doing but the children have all coped really well.
In maths we have been looking at angles. We started by using a protractor to measure existing angles, then moved on to drawing them ourselves. The children all did really well with this! Towards the end of this week, we started looking at some more tricky angles including angles on intersecting lines, angles around a point and triangles. It has been a little more difficult to get our heads around this but I have been so impressed with the amount of effort that the children have put into developing their understanding.
In literacy we have been looking at explanation texts. In order to get a really good idea about how explanation texts work, the children each designed an interesting machine based around the ideas of Wallace and Grommit’s ‘Cracking Contraptions’ and are building up explanations of how they work. Keep your eyes peeled for further developments next week!
On Thursday, all of the children in 5L were given the chance to go out with Chris Young from British Cycling, who will be helping out with the cycling on residential. They learned more about being safe on their bikes as well as some advice about cycling off-road. The next time the children go out, it will be to Otley Chevin (see the previous letter for more information).
Enjoy your weekend!
