A Very Snowy Week!

Friday 2nd March | 3 comments

This week has seen some fantastic adventures out in the snow with the children really getting the most out of this cold weather! We have had snowball fights, sledging and sculpting – complete with wet trousers and frozen fingers (check out some of the other school posts for some great pictures).

In maths, we have been developing our understanding of decimal numbers (including how to convert them to and from fractions and how to find a number exactly halfway between two given decimals). Though the children have found some of this to be difficult they all pressed on, filled with determination.

In literacy, we have been continuing our work on persuasion. We have so far worked in groups to develop adverts for useless products (more on that to come in a later post) and even had a go at performing them! They were generally funny, wacky, or just downright bizarre!

On Thursday the fierce arctic explorers who braved the harsh conditions to make it into school came together to create one big class (37 strong!). Although this caused a few problems, the children worked really hard and produced some great pieces of work – particularly their research projects on South American animals. Did you know what a wide variety of creatures can be found in the continent?

And of course, it wouldn’t be a successful end to the week if 5L didn’t bring out the instruments to put on a fantastic performance of their new song. I think it’s sounding absolutely beautiful so far and we hope to develop our use of the glockenspiel in future lessons.
