5B residential Day 1 so far…

Ten of the class travelled to the Yorkshire Dales by train; the rest travelled by a minibus. The train travellers had to change at Leeds and then wait eight stops before they got to Ribblehead.
We got to the lodge and had a picnic in the garden in the sunshine. We then got told which dormitory we were sleeping in and who we would be sharing with. We carried our bags up and made our beds. Some children struggled to put their sheet on the mattress. We then went by minibus to Ingelton Waterfall Walk. The views were spectacular and the waterfalls were beautiful. Some children took their own pictures and the staff took the photos below. We paddled in the lower part of the River Twiss and played on the rocks. This was probably the best part of the trip so far. We also threw some rocks into the river and made some rock sculptures. On the walk back, we found lots of coins embedded in old tree trunks. We wondered why this had been done. What a strange custom?
We returned to Gearstones just as a terrible rain and hail storm hit the area. It was very different from the sunny afternoon. We will need waterproofs for tonight’s night walk. We are now waiting for dinner and playing games.
